Geneva, SANA – A Syrian delegation headed by Health Minister Nizar Yazigi is participating in the 71st World Health Assembly activities which kicked off on Monday at the UN headquarters at Geneva.
Health Ministers and delegations from 194 member states will discuss during the 6-day forum the global work program for the years from 2019 to 2023.
The program addresses public health readiness and actions, the eradication of polio and tuberculosis, cholera prevention and termination, and the global shortage of medicines and vaccines.
The forum program that lasts until 26 May also includes the global strategy related to the health of women, children, adolescents and workers, in addition pandemic influenza preparedness and response.
Director-General of WHO, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, described in his opening statement the global program of work as “ambitious” whose main goal is to promote health and service for the most vulnerable people to reach a world in which all people receive better healthcare.
