Damascus Countryside Education Directorate: Nearly 12,000 students return to schools in Damascus Countryside towns

Damascus Countryside, SANA – The Department of Compulsory Education in Damascus Countryside Education Directorate announced on Monday the return of more than 12,000 students to the schools of Saqaba and Kafr Batna.

The Education Ministry inaugurated four schools in Kafr Batna and two others in Saqba after its rehabilitation in order to continue the educational process and raise the level of education for students, in addition to the previously opened schools in the make-shift centers in al-Horjelah and al-Doueir.

In a statement to SANA, head of Basic Education Department of Damascus Countryside Directorate, Abdelkader Amouri, confirmed the return of 1350 students to Kafr Batna School, 175 students to Hafez al-Zahabi School, 750 students to Saqba School, 8000 students to al-Horjelah accommodation center’s School, and 1240 students to al-Doueir accommodation center’s School.

Three schools will be rehabilitated and opened in Harasta in the coming 15 days, Amouri said, adding that the process of rehabilitating schools with minor and moderate damage in the Eastern Ghouta is still going on by leaps and bounds.

Amouri said the Education Ministry made steps to address the needs of the students in Ghouta who were studying the official curriculum and compensate for the classes they missed.

Regarding Basic Education and High School certificates, he confirmed that the Ministry will hold crash courses to prepare them for the final exams and help them to make up for what they missed, adding that the Ministry also devoted a structured psychosocial support for the students and recreational activities to ease the bad impact of war and help them back to learning.
