Kremlin: Conclusions on use of chemical weapons in Syria should not be drawn except after unbiased international investigation

SANA- Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday that any conclusions with regard to the allegations on the use of chemical weapons in Syria should not be drawn except after conducting an unbiased and impartial international investigation.

In a press statement in Moscow, Peskov said that “Russia considers that it is unacceptable to use chemical weapons and every time in case of these allegations, the Russian side initiates an unbiased international monitoring and investigation into these cases.”

Peskov regretted that Russia’s calls are facing difficulties as its partners are unwilling to carry out visits, investigations and inspection.

“We believe that the only thing that can be a reason for any accusations is the conclusion by an international commission, the conclusion by an international working group.”

“You may call it as you like, but there should be the result of an unbiased investigation,” Peskov told reporters, “As there is no such investigation any accusations are nothing but mudslinging,” he said.

Speaking on the continuing accusations against the Syrian Arab Army of using chemical weapons, Peskov noted that “chemical weapons in Syria have been eliminated,” adding that “This was verified not only by the Russian side, and this was also verified by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.”

He pointed out that this groundless continued provocations and accusations which lack evidence against Syria are nothing but mudslinging.

In respond to a question on the possibility of a US new aggression against Syria, Peskov said “Let’s hope that no steps leading to a further violation of the international law will happen.”
