Russia targets ISIS sites in al-Bokamal

Moscow, SANA-Russian Defense Ministry said that the Russian forces directed massive strike on the sites of ISIS terrorist organization in the city of al-Bokamal in the southeastern countryside of Deir Ezzor city.

“Long-range bombers Tupolev-22 and the submarine The Kolpino have dealt a massive missile and air strike against the infrastructure and militants of the Islamic State near Abu Kamal. Six strategic bombers Tupolev-22 and six submarine-launched cruise missiles Kalibr hit terrorists’ fortifications, weapons and ammunition depots, manpower and command centers,” Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on Friday.

Konashenkov added that the Russian missile and air strikes paved the way for the active military operations of the Syrian army’s units in the last stronghold of ISIS in east Syria.

He noted that the Kolpino sub launched the cruise missiles from an underwater position in the Mediterranean Sea to a distance of over 650 km. Meanwhile, Su-24 and Su-34 fighters, which took off from Hmeimim airbase, were also involved in the strike under cover carried by Su-30SM, Su-35 and MiG-29.
