Khartoum, SANA – Syria was elected First Vice-President of the African-Arab Youth Council (AAYC) in an election of the Executive Office of the Council for the next four years.
The vote took place during the activities of the AAYC’s second conference held recently in Sudan, which brought together youth delegations from over 25 Arab and African countries.
In a statement to SANA, Chairman of the Revolutionary Youth Union Organization, who is member of the AAYC’s Executive Office, Maan Abboud, said “Syria once again won the elections of the new Executive Office for the next four years.”
He noted that Syria secured 9 votes, while 2 votes were in favor of Egypt.
Abboud pointed out that the countries which voted in favor of Syria are member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, in addition to other Arab countries.
The participants in the recently held AAYC conference discussed means of further boosting rapprochement between youths in the Arab and African countries and expressed full solidarity with the Palestinian people under the Israeli occupation, with the AAYC Secretary-General Yasser Yousuf Ibrahim highlighting Syria’s key role and contribution to the Council’s activities.
The AAYC was established in 2004 when the Afro- Arab Youth Festival was held in March that year in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.
