Daraa governor, UNICEF delegation discuss water, education and health situation in the province

Daraa, SANA – Daraa Governor Mohammad Khaled al-Hannous discussed with a delegation of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) the situation of water, sanitation, health and education in the province.

During the meeting, the Governor affirmed the Governorate’s readiness to provide support to the international organizations operating in Syria in a way that contributes to the success of their work, pointing out that the province is suffering in the field of drinking water supply due to repeated attacks on the electricity lines that are necessary to operate the pumps in the western region of the province, where all water projects are located.

With regard to the health situation, al-Hannous confirmed that the vaccines are available and provided to all the people of the province without exception, and that the province is free of any pandemics despite the terrorists’ continued targeting of health institutions and ambulances, noting that 39 ambulances are out of service due to the terrorist attacks.

For her part, Ahdab al-Mubayyed, the head of the Southern Region Sector at UNICEF, said that the visit aims at evaluating the implemented projects, highlighting the desire of the UNICEF to support water projects due to the lack of water level which reflects on citizens’ lives.

She added that the UNICEF will continue to rehabilitate schools and support the health sector in the province.

Afterwards, the delegation visited the Daraa irrigation project by which water will be supplied from the wells of Khirbet Ghazala, which is being implemented with the support of the UNICEF at a total cost of SYP 1.600 billion and the rehabilitation works at al-Umawiyeh and Maysaloun schools in Daraa city.
