On the participation of the Syrian delegation in the Assembly’s meetings, Minister of Health Nizar Yazji told SANA that the participation was effective and gave the opportunity to the delegation to provide a detailed explanation of the challenges facing the health sector in Syria as a result of the coercive economic measures imposed on it, mainly with regard to the difficulty of securing vaccines for children, medicines for chronic diseases and the necessary requirements for the work of hospitals and health centers.

The minister added that the delegation held several bilateral meetings with the ministers of health of a number of Arab and friendly countries, including the Russian Federation, Belarus, Iraq and Oman to enhance medical and health cooperation, which will reflect positively on the health situation in Syria, especially under the current circumstances.

He pointed out that the most important results of the delegation’s participation are the adoption by the General Health Assembly of the items of a draft resolution on the health conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories and the occupied Syrian Golan, which includes providing the Syrian population with technical assistance related to health and to meet the health needs of the Palestinian people, including the captives and detainees.
