General Security Department releases personnel taken hostage by Assad militia remnants in Lattakia

Lattakia, SANA- The General Security Department in Lattakia, in cooperation with the Military Operations Department, has managed to free a number of its personnel who were taken hostage by remnants of Assad militia.

“Bassam Hussam al-Din, one of the leaders of Assad militia remnants in Jableh area, blew himself up during clashes with him to free our personnel who were taken captives. He is the same person who had threatened to slaughter our personnel in a video clip hours ago,” Lieutenant Colonel, Mustafa Knefati, Director of the General Security Department in Lattakia told SANA.

“After discovering the location of the gang that had captured our personnel, we immediately stormed their stronghold and clashed with them. We managed to detain 5 members of the gang, and clashes continued with their leader, “Bassam Hussam al-Din,” until he used two bombs to throw them at our captive personnel and he had detonated himself at the same time,” added Lieutenant Colonel Knefati.

He went on saying “However, our forces were faster and were able to secure the captives before the bombs went off and he was killed.”
