UN confirms coordination with Arab League to support Syria’s political process

New York, SANA- Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations for the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific, Khaled Khiari, affirmed that the UN Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, continues his close engagement with the Arab League to coordinate support for a comprehensive political process in Syria.

“As Syria seeks to chart a new course after the fall of the defunct regime, Pedersen continues to engage closely with the Arab League and its member states to coordinate support for a comprehensive Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political process, based on the fundamental principles of Security Council resolution 2254 of 2015,” Khiari was quoted by the UN News Centre as saying at Security Council meeting to discuss cooperation between the UN and the Arab League.

Khiari stressed the United Nations’ commitment to its partnership with the Arab League to enhance joint efforts to improve the lives of people across the Arab region and beyond.
