Lattakia, SANA- A tree planting campaign was launched in Al-Basit area, northern countryside of Lattakia, with participating of a number of civil society associations, environmental organizations, and volunteer teams and it aimed to plant 5,000 different saplings.
In a statement to SANA reporter, Director of Agriculture in Lattakia, Abdul Fattah Al-Samar, articulated the importance of this campaign as a first step in a series of afforestation campaigns launched by the ministry, with the aim of rehabilitating forested areas damaged by fires, which contributes to enhancing the vegetation and supporting eco-tourism.
For his part, Maher Zureiq, Director of “Majd 2020” Volunteer Team, said that today’s participation is a step towards achieving the team’s goals of planting one million trees across Syria, that the beginning was from Mount Qasioun in Damascus, today in Lattakia province, and after a while in Tartous.
the campaign was organized by the General Authority for the Management and Protection of State Property and Forests in Lattakia, in cooperation and coordination with the Lattakia Governorate and the Directorate of Agriculture.
