New York, SANA – The escalation of terrorist organizations, on top of which, Jabhat al-Nusra, was not accidental but rather it came after their failure to attack Aleppo city form several axes in fulfillment of commands of well-known states and in coincidence with the withdrawal of the so-called “al-Riyadh delegation” from the past round of intra-Syrian talks in Geneva, Charge d’affaires interim of the permanent mission of the Syrian Arab Republic to the United Nations in New York, Minister Counselor Mounzer Mounzer said.
During the UN Security Council session on the situation in the Middle East on Wednesday, Mounzer said that 28 people were killed including infants and more than 80 others were injured in terrorist attacks launched by armed terrorist groups or as they are also called by some sides “moderate opposition” targeting al-Dhabeet Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynecology and other residential neighborhoods.
“All could clearly see two things…the first one is that the Syrian government has participated in Geneva talks with good intentions and complete seriousness with the aim of reaching a political settlement for the crisis in Syria while “al-Riyadh delegation” came with a prior intention of foiling the talks, which was manifested through their withdrawal from the past round of talks,” Mounzer said.
“The second thing is the Syrian government has committed to the cessation of hostilities agreement stemming from its keenness on saving lives of the Syrians, re-establishing security and stability and combating terrorism while the armed groups allied with the terrorist Jabhat al-Nusra organization violated the agreement, particularly in Aleppo city, which is a translation of al-Riyadh delegation threats calling for burning the Syrian cities,” he added.
Mounzer renewed readiness of the Syrian government to participate in any honest effort that aims at reaching a political settlement through which the Syrian people are able to determine the future of their country independently.
He stressed the importance of halting support provided by some countries to the armed terrorist groups in Syria and the need for controlling borders, particularly the Syrian-Turkish borders, where big numbers of terrorists flow daily.
For his part, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin indicated that the Syrian Arab Army is confronting wide attacks by terrorists against Aleppo City, adding that the terrorist organizations have targeted the neighborhoods of the city with different types of shells and weapons and they intimidated the civilians.
Churkin added that there have been talks on stopping all types of cooperation between the groups of the “moderate opposition” and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization, but they haven’t been translated on the ground and the foreign bodies seemed unwilling to impose their influence on these groups to be away from Jabhat al-Nusra and the other terrorist organizations.
He said that Russian and American military experts are cooperating to follow up and monitor any breaches of the cessation of hostilities through the center which started its work in Geneva today.
Churkin added that there was an attempt to stop the hostilities in Aleppo on May 3rd, but it wasn’t achieved as a result of the daily shelling of the residential areas and destroying a hospital in Aleppo by Jabhat al-Nusra, Arhar al-Sham Movement, Nur ad-Din Zinki Movement and others.
He pointed out that the terrorist organizations of Jabhat al-Nusra and the ISIS are not a part of the cessation of hostilities agreement and they mustn’t be allowed to exploit the truce, and this is what the international law called for.
Churkin affirmed that there is evidence on using mustard gas by the terrorist organizations in Syria, stressing that the terrorist organizations must be prevented from producing such chemical weapons.
He expressed hope that the Syrian-Syrian dialogue will be resumed this month and that all parts will participate in it.
For his part, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Li Baodong asserted the necessity of leaving the Syrian people decide their future and their country’s destiny.
He pointed out that fighting terrorism represents a basic component of the efforts aimed at addressing the crisis in Syria, underlining need for the international efforts to abide by the international principles in fighting terrorism.
In turn, Venezuela’s U.N. representative Rafael Dario Ramirez Carreno reiterated that the political solution is the only way to solve the crisis in Syria, calling for resuming the intra-Syrian dialogue in Geneva as soon as possible without preconditions and without foreign intervention in a way that guarantees achieving the requirements and aspirations of the Syrian people.
Carreno called for wiping out the terrorist groups that coordinate their operations in Aleppo and other Syrian cities with Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists because they threaten the truce reached once again to cease the hostilities.
