Zakharova: Washington does not want to develop Europe, but to annex it to NATO

Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed that the US does not want to develop Europe and does not want to see it strong, united and independent, adding that Britain’s exit from the European Union (EU), as well as the nature of the anti-Russian sanctions that harm Europe in the first place prove that.

“The US wants to turn the EU into an annex to NATO and into a regional economic circle within a new, actual formation, to control the entire Western world,” Zakharova said in a post on her Telegram channel.

“The European Union has been a purely economic association for decades and within its framework, public political files have been coordinated, including the common line of foreign policy, but military and national defense issues have not been raised to the level of Brussels.”, Zakharova noted.
