UN Commission on Human Rights calls for easing sanctions imposed on Iran, Venezuela and Cuba to help in combating COVID-19 Virus

Capitals, SANA- UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet said that the broad sectoral sanctions should urgently be re-evaluated in countries which are facing serious challenges due to the novel Coronavirus like Iran, Cuba and Venezuela.

In a statement on Tuesday Bachelet warned against the effects of the collapse of any health system in any country on the whole world along with the outbreak of the Coronavirus COVID-19, adding that at this critical time and for public health reasons and for supporting the right of millions of people in these countries, the sanctions should be eased or suspended.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stressed the need to intensify efforts and public participation in combating Coronavirus pandemic outbreak, and to set common health protocols among the neighbors and to lift the US unfair sanctions against the peoples due to the current global situation.

Lavrov calls for lifting US sanctions imposed on Iran

In the same context, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed via telephone with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif coordination of efforts to combat the outbreak of Coronavirus.
Lavrov stressed the need to lift the US sanctions imposed on Iran in light of the spread of the Virus.
