Aleppo, SANA – Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia of the Armenian Apostolic Church, His Holiness Catholicos Aram I Keshishian visited on Saturday the old city of Aleppo, where he inspected the scale of the destruction inflicted by the terrorists on its archeological monuments.
He toured the city accompanied with Governor of Aleppo Hussein Diab and Secretary of Aleppo Branch of al-Baath Arab Socialist Party Fadel Najjar. They visited the Forty Martyrs Armenian Church, the Umayyad Mosque and Aleppo Citadel.
His Holiness expressed sorrow and sadness for the terror-inflicted destruction in Aleppo in general and in the Old City in particular, saying that what he witnessed in Aleppo reminded him of the Armenian Genocide committed by the Ottomans more than 100 years ago.
He affirmed that he will try to convey to the whole world, including through international forums, the truth about the unfair terrorist war waged on Syria.
Catholicos Aram I also voiced his confidence that the Syrian people, with their strong will and steadfastness, will be able to reconstruct what was destroyed by the terrorists in Aleppo city.
He stressed that the Syrian Armenians are part and parcel of the Syrian society and will contribute, along with their Syrian fellows, to the process of reconstruction.
