Performance of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Ministry discussed by People’s Assembly

Damascus, SANA-The members of People’s Assembly discussed on Monday during the fourth session of the second ordinary round, chaired by Speaker Hadiyeh Abbas, the performance of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Ministry.

Speaker Abbas pointed out that the unilateral, unfair and coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people affected the economy and the living conditions.

The quires of the Assembly’s members focused on the necessity of adjusting markets to rein in prices and enhance the role positive intervention institutions to alleviate the citizens’ burdens.

They also called for unifying prices within the positive intervention institutions and tightening control over fuel stations.

In turn, Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Abdullah al-Gharbi pointed out that the ministry managed to secure strategic reserves of wheat stock for the next several months, adding that the ministry is working on transporting food directly, without any intermediaries, between provinces in cooperation with other parties in order to put an end to the differences in the products’ prices between provinces.

About monopolizing goods, the minister said that granting import licenses for the largest number of traders has somewhat minimized monopoly in the markets, adding that the ministry will continue delivering goods by air to Hasaka province.

The minister affirmed that all wheat shipments are being checked by the laboratories of the Customs Department in addition to a further check by the laboratory of atomic energy.
