Al-Moallem discusses situation in Syria with a number of foriegn Ministers

New York, SANA-Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem on Friday met Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari on the sideline of the 71st session of UN General Assembly.

During their meeting, Al-Moallem briefed al-Jafaari on the field situation in Syria, asserting that the Syrian Arab Army has committed to the conditions of the cessation of hostilities in Syria at the time when about 300 breaches by the terrorists were observed in 7 days.

For his part, al-Jaafari pointed out that the both Syria and Iraq are facing the same terrorism.

The two sides stressed their countries’ determination to eliminate terrorism, emphasizing the underway coordination between them in this regard.

In a similar meeting with Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi, al-Moallem showed Syria’s stance towards the US allegations that targeting the Syrian military position in Deir Ezzor was a “mere mistake”

For his part, Bin Alawi affirmed the importance of resuming the intera-Syrian dialogue to end the crisis in Syria.

Al-Moallem also discussed with his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides in a third meeting  the necessity of fighting all the groups which carry the terrorist ideology, like Jabhat al-Nusra, Ahrar al-Sham and others terrorist organizations.

The two sides also discussed bilateral relations.

Minister Al-Moallem also discussed with his Armenian counterpart Edward Nalbandian the bilateral relations and means of enhancing them. Both sides agreed to continue consultations and coordination between the two countries, particularly in the fight against terrorism

Earlier, al-Moallem met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sideline of the 71st UN General Assembly session.

Talks during the meeting, which was positive and constructive, tackled the latest developments in Syria, with al-Moallem lauding Russia’s support and the constant consultations between the two countries’ leaderships, while Lavrov affirmed that Russia is committed to the priority of separating the “opposition” from Jabhat al-Nusra terror organization before moving forward with discussing any future steps with the United States.

Al-Moallem also met Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei, discussing with him developments on the ground, and prospects of bilateral cooperation and developing it, with al-Moallem affirming that Syria is committed to fighting terrorism as a priority. In turn, Makei affirmed that Belarus will continue to support Syria and coordinate with it in various fields.

In a similar meeting, al-Moallem affirmed during his meeting with Sudanese Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour that Syria is committed to any serious initiative for resolving the crisis in it, stressing that results cannot be achieved without an international and regional will to support the political solution and without stopping foreign support for terrorist groups.

The two sides also affirmed the need to boost cooperation between the two countries.

The meetings were attended by Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad, Syria’s Permanent Representative at the UN Bashar al-Jaafari, and Advisor to the Foreign and Expatriates Minister Ahmad Arnous.
