Hasaka, SANA – Hasaka Governor Mohammad Zaal al-Ali discussed on Tuesday with representative of the World Food Program (WFP) in Syria Jakob Kern and the accompanying delegation means to enhance cooperation between the two sides in the relief and services sectors.
Al-Ali noted that cutting off the roads linking Hasaka governorate with other provinces reflected negatively on the living conditions of the citizens as a result of the blockade imposed by terrorist organizations, calling for increasing the aid provided by the WFP which offered around 258,000 food packages to the province in 2015.
For his part, Kern said that one of the main difficulties that face WFP work in Hasaka is cutting off roads and the closure of the Nusaybin border crossing by the Turkish government, even though the WFP has sought to open it for humanitarian cases and to transfer food, but these demands were rejected by the Turkish side.
He pointed out that the WFP is currently working on delivering 30,000 food packages to Hasaka province through an air bridge from Damascus International Airport to Qamishli International Airport.
Kern added that the WFP is working on delivering aid through Saemalka border crossing with Iraq, pointing out that around 20 trucks loaded with food aid will be transported to Hasaka on a daily basis and for a long time if the necessary approvals are acquired.
