Damascus, SANA-The Central Bank of Syria (CBS) affirmed on Sunday that the confusion in the foreign exchange market and the reports about the Syrian pound exchange rate against dollar is part of the fierce media campaign which Syria and its national economy are exposed to.
The CBS pointed out that it strives to defend the Syrian pound exchange rate.
In a statement, the CBS said that consumers depending on the domestic products, refraining from imported products and reducing the smuggling operations will contribute positively to reduce the demand for foreign exchange.
The CBS added that it will continue to intervene in the foreign currency exchange market on a daily basis via banks and exchange companies, asserting its readiness to meet the market’s foreign currency needs for financing imports and for non-commercial purposes.
The CBS also announced that it set the import financing exchange rate at SYP 515 against the USD.
