Information Minister: Those who want to fight terrorism must coordinate with Syrian state

Damascus, SANA – Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi asserted that fighting terrorism is the main priority of the Syrian state, and that those who want to fight terrorism must coordinate with Syrian state and Russia.

In an interview given to Al Mayadeen TV on Sunday, al-Zoubi said that the battle against ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra is still taking place and isn’t affected by the cessation of hostilities agreement, stressing that the United States must pressure certain capitals to coerce the armed groups that are subservient to them to commit to the cessation agreement.

He said that any attack by a terrorist organization will incur retaliation, which is the case in Aleppo, adding that the Syrian Arab Army’s achievements won’t stop at restoring security to Palmyra and al-Qaryatain.

The Minister also stressed that the Syrian Arab Army is the one carrying out military operations on the ground along with supporting forces with Russian aerial support, in addition to Iranian military experts and advisors.

Al-Zoubi said that any progress in the next round of talks in Geneva is dependent on whether the so-called “opposition abroad” will decide to embrace the political process and reach a unified, rational political position, adding that changes in the political landscape in Syria requires either a new constitution or amending the existing one, which would be carried out with the participation of all Syrians under an expanded unified government.

He went on to assert that terrorism is rooted in the Saudi regime due to its Wahabi mentality, and that the Saudi regime seeks to destroy the Syrian states just like what happened in Libya and Iraq, something which won’t happen, adding “the Al Saud regime has drowned in the sands of Yemen and is looking for a life buoy to get out, because it has committed genocides and massacres there the likes of which haven’t occurred since WW2.”
