Geneva, SANA-The Sixty-eighth session of the World Health Assembly started its activities on Monday, as officials from 194 Member States begin their annual review of the activities of World Health Organization (WHO) and set new priorities for the future.
At the opening session of the Assembly, Chairman of the Syrian delegation to the Assembly, Minister of Health Nizar Yazaji was elected a member at the General Committee of the Assembly.
Director General of WHO pointed out to the health status in the world and the efforts it exerts to fight the diseases and epidemics and to preserve health in general.
“Health system in Syria has proven its technical competence in responding to health demands of the citizens in light of the crisis the country is passing through,” Minister Yazaji said in a statement to SANA correspondent.
Earlier, the Minister discussed with WHO regional Director in East Mediterranean Ala al-Din Elwan and WHO resident representative in Syria Elizabeth Huff cooperation between Syria and the international origination, including health issues on local and regional arenas, in particular, the latest developments relevant to combating polio.
Elwan, for his part, said WHO has a big interest in responding to the increasing demands of people who were affected by the crisis in Syria.
The Assembly is taking place in Geneva between 18–26 May 2015.
