Moscow, SANA-Head of the Syrian government delegation to Moscow inter-Syrian talks Bashar al-Jaafari said a fruitful, serious and deep exchange of viewpoints and ideas has been held among participants today.
“I mean ideas were discussed between the delegation of the Syrian government from one side, and the delegation of opposition figures from the other,” al-Jaafari said in a statement to SANA correspondent in Moscow.
“The fruitful and serious exchange of ideas and viewpoints has been crowned with proposals and thoughts submitted by the government’s delegation in order to be discussed as outcomes for the first and second items of the agenda suggested by the Russian friends,” al-Jaafari said.
He added “I can say yes, the atmospheres were full of that exchange of ideas, but we have reached a kind of common denominators which we hope the sides would have an understanding on tomorrow after the other sides of opposition study them and approve them, then we adopt them as some outcomes of the first and second items of the agenda.”
Earlier, al-Jaafari announced the Syrian government delegation’s approval of a set of points proposed by the Russian moderator Vitaly Naumkin as a schedule for the second round of the talks.
Meanwhile, the second round of the inter-Syrian preliminary consultative meetings in Moscow between the Syrian government’s delegation and opposition figures wrapped up sessions for today.
SANA reporter quoted sources privy to today’s talks that an opposition figure accused the government of not helping in the fight against ISIS, prompting the government’s delegation to reveal documents that uncover the magnitude of military support provided by the government in the fight against the terror organization.
The reporter quoted the sources as saying that the opposition had proposed different documents outlining their views about the agenda but failed to come up with a unified paper.
In contrast to an opposition delegation riven by differences and wrangling, the government’s delegation proposed a set of items for agreement:
• Calling on the international community to exert serious and prompt pressure on Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the countries supporting terrorism to halt their support.
• Urging the international community to fully and immediately lift economic sanctions on the Syrian people.
• Solving the crisis in Syria on a consensual basis according to Geneva communiqué, taking into account that any political settlement must be based on national sovereignty and popular will.
