New York, SANA- The massacres and genocide committed by the Israeli occupation through its aggression on the Gaza Strip would not have occurred without the insistence of well-known Western countries, led by the US, on granting it an open mandate to kill and providing it with protection and impunity, Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Fayssal Mikdad said.
Mikdad’s remarks came in a statement on Wednesday during the Security Council’s ministerial meeting on “the situation in the Middle East,” delivered by Acting Chargé d’affaires, Dr. Alhakam Dandy.
Mikdad stressed that the UN Security Council must bear its responsibilities in putting an end to the massacres and crimes committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinians, and hold their perpetrators accountable, away from political hypocrisy and double standards.
Minister Mikdad talked about the dangerous criminal escalation by the Israeli occupation and its obnoxious practices against the Palestinians since the beginning of October, stressing that the main reason for the current escalation taking place in the occupied Palestinian territories is the injustice to which the Palestinian people have been exposed for decades of occupation, and Israeli occupation’s attempt through its brutal war to liquidate the Palestinian cause through massacres.
Mikdad expressed Syria’s denunciation of the behavior of the US and its allies in the Security Council, which caused it to be unable to carry out its responsibilities in stopping the Israeli aggression.
He noted that that Washington was not satisfied with disrupting the Council, but rather rushed to strengthen the Israeli war machine.
Mikdad renewed Syria’s demand that the Security Council assume its responsibilities and put an end to the barbaric occupation attacks on the Palestinian people, by immediately stopping the aggression against the Gaza Strip and providing urgent humanitarian support to the Palestinians.
He added that the region will not enjoy stability as long as the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people continue to be denied, Israel continues to occupy Arab lands, and continues to refuse to implement the relevant resolutions of international legitimacy.
The Foreign Minister reaffirmed Syria’s firm support for the Palestinian cause, and that it has not and will not spare any effort to stand by the brotherly Palestinian people.
Mikdad pointed out that “Israel’s” crimes in Palestine are inseparable from its practices in the Syrian Golan occupied since 1967, which is manifested in the continuation of its aggressive policies against our people in the Golan.
He added that, in conjunction with “Israel” continued aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza, it is intensifying its repeated attacks on Syrian lands.
