Iran criticizes U.S. support for terrorism, condemns Turkish transgression into Syrian territory

Tehran, SANA – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said that the arming and supporting of terrorist organizations that the U.S. administration and some regional states refer to as “moderate” constitutes a clear violation of international law.

In a statement on Sunday, Afkham said that this course of actions repeats the same strategic mistakes that led to the emergence of terrorist organizations like ISIS, Jabhet al-Nusra, and others.

On a relevant note, Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian said that the Turkish transgression into Syrian territories is unjustifiable, stressing that military interference by countries neighboring Syria makes the situation more complicated and only serves to destabilize security in the region.

The transgression in question involved the Turkish government entering Syrian territory and relocating the tomb of Suleyman Shah, the grandfather of the founder of the Ottoman sultanate, an act which involved venturing into an area where ISIS is active, leading to the conclusion that the Turkish government carried this out in coordination with the terrorist organization.

Abdullahian asserted that employing terrorist organizaitons to carry out certain agendas creates a vicious circle that will only lead to spreading terrorism and destabilizing the region.
