Antonov: Washington must demonstrate commitment to START treaty with deeds, not words

Washington, SANA- Washington should demonstrate in deeds, not words, its commitment to the START Treaty on the Reduction of Strategic Offensive Arms, Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, said.

Sputnik quoted Antonov as saying today that “US allegations that its sanctions against Russia do not prevent Russian specialists from conducting inspections at US facilities under the START 3 treaty do not correspond to reality.”

Antonov added that “the inspections were seriously complicated by the sanctions imposed by Washington on Russia, and the lack of normal air contacts with the United States.”

He added that “the closure of the airspace by America’s allies to the transit of Russian aircraft and the problems of obtaining entry visas for members of the inspection teams and flight crews, all of these issues have created conditions under which it has become difficult to conduct inspections on American soil.

Antonov made it clear that despite these obstacles, Russia will continue to work with the United States to remove the current problems regarding inspections under the START Treaty.
