“The Church, Home for Love… Synodal Joint Procession” Conference kicks off in Damascus

Damascus, SANA- Activities of “the Church, Home for Love… Synodal Joint Procession” kicked off in Damascus on Tuesday. The 3-day conference is organized by the Council of Catholic Churches at the Conferences’ Palace in Damascus.

In the presence of official and religious figures, the conference began its sessions with a prayer for the peace in Syria, its resurrection and full elimination of terrorism.

Minister of Endowments, Muhammad Abdul-Sattar Al-Sayed, said that the conference synchronizes with the passing of eleven years since the terrorist war has begun on Syria, adding that the Syrian family has suffered for years from the aggressive and terrorist war that has been supported by many countries that claim democracy and the protection of human rights while they are in fact ,supporting terrorism and extremist ideology that disregards religions that call for amity, peace and human dignity.

Secretary of the Conference, Bishop Antoine Audo, delivered a speech on behalf of His Holiness Pope Francis, Pope of the Vatican, saying that While the war on Syria continues, which has entered its twelfth year and caused suffering, hunger and death to the Syrian people, initiatives continue to give hope to the Syrian people who remained resilient on their land. Hence, “we find and opportunity to say to the Christians of this land that you are not forgotten because the Church is following you with special concern.

For his part, Younan Mar Ignatius Joseph III, Patriarch of the Syrian Catholic Church, said that Syria, despite the crisis, has remained the country of civilization and genuine fraternity and faith.

In turn, Mario Zenari, Ambassador of the holy See in Damascus, showed sympathy with the Syrian people who has and still suffer from the war, calling for supporting them.
