Zarif, Kerry to meet on January 14 in Geneva

TEHRAN, SANA, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his U.S. counterpart John Kerry will meet for bilateral talks over Iran’s nuclear program in Geneva on January 14, a top Iranian nuclear negotiator announced on Friday.

Zarif and Kerry will meet in Geneva to “provide the necessary instruction to their deputies before negotiations,” Abbas Araqchi the deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs said, adding that the Iranian and U.S. negotiators will hold bilateral talks on January 15 to 17..

Negotiations between Iran and the 5+1 group will also start on January 18 at the level of deputy foreign ministers, he added.

The U.S. State Department said on January 8 that acting Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman will lead U.S. negotiators at the bilateral talks with Iran.

Iran and the 5+1 group – the United States, Britain, France, China, Russia, and Germany – have missed two deadlines to agree to a permanent deal on Iran’s nuclear program.

The parties have set July 1 as the deadline to work out all of the details.
