Syria wins two medals, three certificates of appreciation at International Mathematical Olympiad

Damascus, SANA- Syrian Science Olympiad students won a bronze and a silver medal, and three certificates at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) which was organized by Russia remotely over two days last week, with the participation of 622 students from 114 countries.

The Excellence and Creativity Commission said in a statement to SANA on Monday that the silver medal was won by 2nd grade secondary school student Ali Firas Bakur from (Aleppo Province) and 3rd grade secondary school student Abdul-Karim Nabil al-Sayed Ramadan from (Damascus Province), while the bronze medal was won by 2nd grade secondary school student Hussein Hayyan Khalil from (Tartous Province).

As for the certificates of appreciation, they were obtained by 2nd grade secondary school student Ala al-Din Madian Ahmad from (Aleppo Province), 3rd grade secondary school student Mohammad from (Aleppo Province), and 3rd grade secondary school student Mohammad from Khalil Kheir al-Din Tarsha al-Kurdi, from (Aleppo Province).

The Commission pointed out that this is the largest number of awards harvested by the Syrian Science Olympiad team on the international level, as Syria has advanced in the world mathematics ranking from the 55th place to the 47th.
