Beijing, SANA- Presidential Political and Media Adviser Bouthaina Shaaban said that Western powers and the US consider themselves as custodian of the human rights while, in fact, they seriously misinterpret this concept worldwide through interfering in the domestic affairs of other countries, particularly in the Arab World, including Iraq, Libya and Syria.
“Western powers and the US ignore violations of human rights committed by Israel in occupied Palestine and the occupied Syrian Golan where the Zionist entity sought to change the features of the place to obliterate its original historic identity,”Shaaban added in a speech at the 2019 South-South Human Rights Forum being held in Beijing.
Shaaban hoped that the forum would be a first step towards developing the human rights in agreement with diversity of civilizations and cultures of peoples.
“This forum is a historic opportunity to redefine the concept of human rights not only at the level of the countries of the South but also at the level of the whole world,” she said.
Shaaban made it clear that the terrorist war on Syria contributed to revealing the reality of the Western stance on terrorism, pointing out to the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the US against Syria, describing them as “rising to be as collective sanctions.”
She indicated that Syria condemned in the strongest terms the recent decision of the US Congress regarding the Chinese provinces of Xinjiang and Hong Kong.
The 2019 South-South Human Rights Forum started its activities in Beijing under the title of “Diversity of Civilizations and Global Development of Human Rights”.
The forum gathers more than 300 officials, ministers, diplomats, and scholars from over 80 countries, with participation of Syria.
