Mikdad, Marcaillou discuss work of UN Mine Action Service in Syria

Damascus, SANA – Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad discussed with Director of the United Nations Mine Action Service Agnes Marcaillou the work of the agency in Syria.

Mikdad affirmed the need to bolster the operations of the demining program due to the losses in lives and properties that result from landmines planted by terrorists.

He noted that the Syrian state has exerted monumental efforts in demining, and that it will continue to cooperate with the Mine Action Service and provide all necessary facilitations to ensure that all areas liberated from terrorism are cleared of landmines and IEDs.

Mikdad also said that some Western states’ blocking of funding for the Service in Syria is part of the double-standards policies carried out by these states.

For her part, Marcaillou voiced appreciation for Syria’s cooperation with the Service, stressing the importance of continuing bilateral cooperation.

She reviewed the progress achieved in building Syrian capacities and spreading awareness about the threat posed by landmines.
