People’s Assembly passes bill on exemptions from interests and fines for overdue municipal fees

Damascus, SANA – The People’s Assembly on Tuesday passed a bill on exempting people with overdue municipal fees, construction infringement fines, and payments and rents for space in industrial zones for 2013 and earlier from all interests and fines if they make the payments.

During the session, Deputy Prime Minister and Local Administration Minister Omar Ghalawanji said the bill will help provide money for administrative units to cover their costs, and that it takes into account the current economic situation in the country and how it affects people.

He also said that the government is working to facilitate the return of displaced people to their hometowns that have been secured.

The Assembly members addressed a number of services issues during the meeting, calling for reducing prices to suit wages or increases salaries, and stressing the need to support local reconciliations.

They also called for scheduling loans taken by industrialists and explaining the laws passed by the Assembly to the public via media outlets.
