Al-Jaafari: Syria will continue to defend its land and citizens, combat terrorism, and end illegitimate foreign presence

New York, SANA- Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari affirmed that Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization in Idleb continues to use hundreds of thousands of civilians in Idleb as human shields and it commits the ugliest crimes against them, and it continues to attack the neighboring cities and towns.

In a session of the Security Council on Tuesday, al-Jaafari reasserted that Syria will continue to defend its land and citizens, combat terrorism and end the illegitimate foreign presence on its territories.

“The terrorist organizations in Idleb continue to attack the neighboring cities and towns, the latest of which was the massacre committed by these terrorist organizations in al-Wadihi village in Aleppo southern countryside two days ago which claimed the lives of 12 civilians and injured more than 16 while they were attending a wedding ceremony,” al-Jaafari said.

He indicated that this barbaric crime comes within a series of crimes committed by these terrorist groups which are led by Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization, and these crimes entail from the Security Council to condemn them clearly as they have claimed the lives of hundreds of innocent civilians and injured others including many women and children.

Al-Jaafari noted that all members of the Security Council realize that there is a problem in Idleb which must be solved, yet they ignore the reason behind that problem which is the continued support provided by the Turkish regime and its partners to the terrorist organizations and the fact that the Turkish regime doesn’t abide by its commitments according to the de-escalation zone agreement and the agreements reached in Astana and Sochi.

He clarified that implementing the principles of the international law and the provisions of the UN Charter and the Security Council’ resolutions which are related to combating terrorism entails to support the efforts exerted by the Syrian Government and its allies in combating terrorism, and  to build partnerships with it as it is the main party which is concerned in eliminating terrorism.

Al-Jaafari underlined the importance of completely getting away from the attempts which aim at undermining Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and from all the attempts of exploiting the crisis to serve destructive agendas of some states and their agents.

He added that ending the suffering of the Syrians in Idleb and other areas entails confronting the main reasons behind that suffering which are the policies of some terrorism-sponsoring states and the practices of their tools of terrorist organizations and the continued crimes committed by the “International Coalition” and its tools of militias, in addition to ending the illegitimate presence of the US and Turkish forces on the Syrian territories.

Al-Jaafari demanded to immediately lift the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on the Syrian people and putting an end to the intentional and systematic  politicization of the humanitarian issue, in addition to supporting the efforts exerted by the Syrian Government to rebuild what has been destroyed at the hands of terrorists and to facilitate the return of the displaced Syrians to their homeland.

He indicated that despite of that the Security Council has adopted more than 46 resolutions on combating terrorism in Syria, there are some members of the Council and outside it which invest in terrorism and consider it as a partner to target the Syrian state instead of establishing a partnership with it to combat terrorism.

He asserted that the Syrian state will continue to practice its sovereign and constitutional right and it works according to the UN Charter and principles of the international law in defending its land and citizens and in combating terrorism and ending the illegitimate foreign presence on its territories, adding that Syria is committed to finding a political solution to the crisis in which the Syrians only decide their future.

Commenting on the report of the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Mark Lowcock, al-Jaafari said that the report is full of misleading information and lies as it depended on unreliable and misleading sources which are related to the terrorist organizations, refuting all allegations on that the Syrian Arab targets civilians and hospitals in Idleb.

In a response to the statements by representatives of the Council’s member states, al-Jaafari said that the Turkish regime continues to support terrorists in Syria and to supply them with rockets, tanks, mines and weapons including the chemical ones.
