Moscow, SANA – The Russian Defense Ministry reiterated that the US occupation forces are preventing the evacuation of displaced Syrians from al-Rukban camp and their return to their towns and villages.
Maj. Gen. Viktor Kupchishin from the Russian Coordination Center in Hmeimim said in a statement on Saturday evening that US forces prevented buses prepared by Syria and Russia from reaching al-Rukban camp to evacuate Syrian civilians from it.
He said that a permanent humanitarian corridor and a mobile checkpoint were set up in Jalib area where the buses were sent in order to evacuate displaced people from the camp safely and voluntarily, in order to avert a humanitarian disaster.
Kupchishin stressed that the Syrian government has guaranteed the safety of the displaced people who wish to make use of this opportunity and set up a simple system to recover their documents.
He added that despite that, the situation is still complicated because the American side refuses to allow the buses to evacuate the displaced people, and it also refuses to ensure the safety of humanitarian convoys in the area around its base in al-Tanf.
