Syria, Iran sign memo on enhancing scientific and technical cooperation

Tehran, SANA-Damascus University and Iranian Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic)on Tuesday signed a memo of understanding for technical and technological cooperation that aims at enhancing scientific and technological experiences and benefiting from research centers to upgrade the scientific level of both universities.

The memo was inked by Dean of Damascus University Mohammad Maher Qabaqibi and Dean of Amirkabir University Seyyed Ahmad Motamedi.

Both sides called for increasing the exchange of scientific experiences so as to meet the requirements of the modern age of technology and advanced technologies.

Amirkabir University is the first ever university of technology in Iran as it was established in 1956 and it is considered a public research university.

Touring the scientific and research centers affiliated to Amirkabir University, the Syrian delegation inspected the achievements and research conducted at them and ways to benefit from them at the Syrian research centers.

The delegation met Dr. Ali Akbar Velayati, Head of Founding Board of Islamic Azad University (IAU) who stressed the importance of strengthening scientific cooperation between the Syrian and Iranian universities.

“Enhancing the scientific and cultural relations would effectively contribute to strengthening the solid political and economic relations between Syria and Iran ,” Velayati said.

He indicated that Syria’s victory over terrorism is a clear evidence on its cultural and civilizational steadfastness.

For his part, Qabaqibi hailed Iran’s stances in support of Syria, affirming the necessity of boosting the scientific relations between the Syrian and Iranian universities and focusing on the qualitative scientific and research specialties.

The delegation also met IAU Acting President Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi who affirmed readiness to contribute to the reconstruction stage in Syria in the medical, scientific and economic domains.

Tehranchi affirmed that the policy of imposing embargo and economic siege will not dissuade peoples from achieving scientific progress.
