Abkhazia’s Deputy FM: Syria’s recognition of Abkhazia’s independence in line with int’l laws

Moscow, SANA – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, Kan Taniya, asserted on Thursday that Syria’s recognition of the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia and the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries fully complies with international laws.

“We have been following with regret and without surprise the reaction of Georgia and the Western partners to Syria’s recognition of the Republic of Abkhazia as an independent and sovereign state in a way that fully consists with the principles of international law,” Tania said in a statement to Sputnik.

He added that the international recognition of Abkhazia is inevitable and “a matter of time.”

The Foreign and Expatriates Ministry had announced on Tuesday that Syria, Abkhazia and South Ossetia have agreed to exchange recognition and set up Embassy-level diplomatic relations.
