Russia pledges support to states fighting ISIS

Moscow, SANA – Russia affirmed that Moscow does not expect invitations for it to join the international alliance against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist organization but will continue its aid to Iraq, Syria and other nations that are fighting terrorists on the spot.

“The anti-ISIS coalition is not a club party – we do not expect any invitations and we are not going to buy entry tickets,” said Ilya Rogachev, the head of the Foreign Ministry’s Department for New Challenges and Threats Ilya Rogachev.

At the same time Russia will continue to support all states that fight the Islamic State, the Russian official said on Friday.
“Russia supports Iraq and its help has already allowed this country to improve its defenses markedly. It is also supporting the Syrian government in its fight against extremism,” Rogachev told reporters.

He added that Russia is ready to help all ISIS opponents, including members of the coalition being formed by the US, but under the condition that they stop using double standards and remain within the framework of international law.

He pointed out that Russia hopes the UN Secretary Council’s resolution will not be interpreted as a green light to strike targets in Syria without its permission.
