Russia: Terrorists who shell Damascus must be pressured into adhering to Security Council resoltuions

Moscow, SANA – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed the need for applying pressure on terrorist groups that shell Damascus city to adhere to Security Council resolution.

In a press conference on Tuesday with French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian, Lavrov said that those who influence the groups that continue to shell Damascus must assume responsibility, calling on the French and the West in general to examine facts before making statements about breaching resolution no. 2401.

He noted that Russia and the Syrian government worked to open a human corridor in Ghouta to deliver humanitarian aid and evacuate those who wish to leave.

Lavrov said that during the liberation of the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo from terrorism, some sides claimed that civilians will not be able to return to their homes there, but most of them already have.

The Minister said that the operations of the US-led alliance led to the total destruction of Raqqa city, which requires sending a team from the UN or the Red Cross to examine the situation there.

On a relevant note, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow regrets that some Western states overlook the transgressions of terrorists in Ghouta, affirming Russia’s commitment to implementing Security Council resolution no. 2401 on the cessation of combat activities in Syria.
