Health Ministry calls for lifting unilateral economic measures imposed on Syria

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Health, Nizar Yazigi, said that the most important demand now is to lift the unilateral economic measures imposed on the Syrian people to allow the health sector ensure all the required medical equipment and medicines and to guarantee the success of the humanitarian response plan.

During his meeting with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Head of the Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Mark Lowcock on Thursday, Yazigi discussed means of enhancing cooperation in domain of delivering medical services to all areas, in addition to the needs related to the upcoming humanitarian health response plan.

He affirmed keenness on providing medical therapeutic services to all citizens despite all challenges imposed by the war waged on Syria, and rehabilitating the hospitals and the health centers affected by the terrorist acts.

The minister also expressed readiness to provide all required facilitations for the delivery of aid to the hard-to-reach areas, and to evacuate the critical health conditions from these areas to the national hospitals.

Yazigi clarified that the armed terrorist organizations hinder the delivery of aid through targeting aid convoys or preventing them from reaching the citizens.

For his part, Lowcock said that the UN is adhered to providing as much aid as possible to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people, adding that he seeks to increase the funding related to the response plan to meet all needs.

He said that work is underway to collect data and information on the impacts of the unilateral economic measures imposed on the Syrian people to demand lifting them.

Lowcock also expressed satisfaction over the delivery of vaccines to all areas, wishing to enhance cooperation with regard to the delivery of aid to the hard-to-reach areas.
