Munzer: U.S. decision on al-Quds is illegitimate and of no legal value

New York, SANA-Acting Charge d’ Affaires of Syria’s Permanent delegation to the United Nations Munzer Munzer stressed that U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize  al-Quds  as the capital of the Israeli occupation entity is illegitimate and holds no legal value.

Munzer, during an emergent UN General Assembly session on al-Quds, renewed Syria’s call for Palestine to be granted a full membership at the UN.

He added that the U.S. decision constitutes a flagrant violation of Jerusalem’s legal, political and historical position and is considered as part of the usurpation of the Palestinian territory and the displacement of its people.

Moreover, the illegitimate and unilateral U.S. decision breaches the UNSC and UN General Assembly’s resolutions which call on the Israeli occupation to withdraw from territories occupied in 1967, including Jerusalem, said Munzer.

He noted that the danger of such decisions emerge from the fact that it is an official declaration made by the U.S. Administration which means that it has never been and will never be an eligible mediator or  part of any endeavor to reach a peaceful settlement to the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Munzer said that Syria condemns the United States veto on a UN Security Council resolution rejecting US President Donald Trump’s decision on Jerusalem which stresses once again the U.S. defiance of international laws and violation of international legitimacy principles as it exposes its infinite support to the Israeli entity at the expense of the Palestinian people.

He noted that despite the terrorist war on Syria and its repercussions, Palestine will remain the compass and Syria will spare no effort till full restoration of all occupied Arab territories, reiterating Syria’s firm stance towards the Palestinian cause and the rights of the Palestinian Muslims and Christians.

The Syrian diplomat renewed Syria’s principled stance in support of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and establishing their independent state with al-Quds as its capital, in addition to guaranteeing the right of refugees to return home in accordance with resolution No. 194(1948).

He added that Syria welcomes granting Palestine a non-member observer status in the UN.

Munzer called on the UN to shoulder its responsibilities and implement relevant UNSC and UN General Assembly resolutions to put an end to the suffering of Palestinian people, end the Israeli occupation of Arab territories and the establishment of a Palestinian state with al-Quds as its capital.

He stated that what is taking place today leaves no room that the U.S. has no intention and not concerned with reaching a fair and comprehensive solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict.
