Water, health and sewage services in Daraa discussed with ICRC

Daraa, SANA – The joint efforts between the Governorate of Daraa and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to provide the needed services to the southern province’s citizens were discussed on Wednesday.

During a meeting with a team of the ICRC, Governor Mohammad Khalid al-Hannous drew the team’s attention to the need to enhance cooperation in the field of approving the emergency plan on the health, water and sewage services.

Most urgent among those services are transforming comprehensive clinics into a hospital form to support the general commission of Daraa National Hospital, providing water storage tanks to citizens and executing sewage projects, according to al-Hannous.

The ICRC official for water and housing sectors said the organization will work on supplying the needed water equipment and tanks and providing the necessary maintenance works to cover the needs of sewage projects.

For her part, director of the Southern Region team of the ICRC highlighted the need to jointly follow up on the implementation of projects, referring particularly to the high voltage power line 66 that is linked to al-Ashaari pumping plant.

The project is of a great importance in the southern province, as it “will radically solve the water problem,” according to Eng. Alaa Barmo, head of the Water and Overhaul Committee of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent’s branch in Daraa.
