Yaizigi calls for immediate intervention to save Syrian and Palestinian captives in Israeli jails

Geneva, SANA – The 70th World Health Assembly continued its activities at the UN HQ in Geneva by discussing the health situation in occupied Palestinian territory as well as in the occupied Syrian Golan.

During the session, Health Minister Nizar Yazigi said that Israeli occupation authorities are causing much suffering and tragedy for the people of the occupied Syrian Golan, as these authorities continue to prevent establishing a general hospital in the Golan, in addition to the daily suffering of Syrian captives in Israeli occupation jails who are detained in inhumane conditions and suffer torture to extract confessions for acts they didn’t commit.

Yazigi pointed out to the arbitrary arrests of people from the occupied Syrian Golan, which sometimes involves the arrests of an entire family, with the Minister decrying the Israeli inhumane practices against the Syrian and Palestinian captives who are on hunger strike, calling for immediate intervention to save their lives and meet their demands.

He also addressed the environmental situation in the occupied Syrian Golan, noting that reports indicate that an environmental and humanitarian disaster is imminent due to Dimona reactor’s life span running out, in addition to the burying of nuclear waste in the Golan, adding that reports indicate that nuclear waste was buried in 20 sites in the Golan without international supervision.

Yazigi also said that the Israeli occupation continues to transport terrorists from Jabhat al-Nusra and other terror groups affiliated to it from Syria to Israeli hospitals then bring them back to Syria to continue committing terrorist acts against Syrian civilians.

The Minister called on the World Health Organization (WHO) to intervene to implement resolutions on establishing health facilities in the occupied Syrian Golan, welcoming the WHO’s intention to send a field team to assess the situation in the Golan.
