Environment minister discusses project on increasing green spaces

Damascus, SANA-Caretaker Minister of State for Environmental Affairs Nazira Sarkis said the  engagement of the private sector in increasing green spaces emphasizes the importance of  partnership between various sectors.

Sarkis was speaking during a meeting of the directive  committee of “Shajarati” (My Tree) project,  which is carried out in cooperation with the Korean Business Center.

The project aims to increase green spaces  and trees, and provides new job opportunities.

Director of the Korean Business Center Zaher Zanbarakji said that the project is aimed to achieve  environmental balance and increase available resources. Its revenues go to the Environment  Protection Fund, charities, humanitarian organizations and needy families in Syria.

“Shajarati” project is aimed to increase the green spaces and help reduce pollution, as well as  supporting tree-planting campaigns and encouraging volunteerism and social environmental  awareness-raising campaigns.
