Education Ministry, UNICEF discuss cooperation for repairing damaged schools

Damascus, SANA-Education Minister Dr. Hazwan al-Waz discussed on Sunday with the Resident Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Syria Dr. Youssef Abdul-Jalil means of invigorating cooperation, mainly in the repair of schools with minor damage.

The minister affirmed, during the meeting, the ministry’s interest in continued cooperation with UNICEF to improve the quality of education and supply schools with the requirements of a successful educational process.

The future of every single Syrian student counts, the minister said, indicating that the ministry has organized crash courses for students who missed exams due to the current security conditions0

The minister reviewed with the UNICEF resident representative the programs and plans that the ministry is implementing, in cooperation with UNICEF, thanking Abdul-Jalil for the organization’s efforts in Syria.

Dr. Abdul-Jalil, in turn, reassured that the plans and programs that UNICEF is executing in cooperation with the ministry are “progressing well”, calling for supplying the UN organization with accurate statistics and information for decisions to be taken in their light, particularly as regards having the humanitarian needs of students met.

The UNICEF representative said that it is likely the organization will provide support to the Education Ministry for repairing schools with minor of medium damage.
